About SkinPen Microneedling

SkinPen microneedling, also known simply as microneedling, is a cosmetic procedure that involves using a device with fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This process stimulates the body’s natural wound healing response, which includes the production of new collagen and elastin fibers. SkinPen is a brand name for a specific type of microneedling device.

The process of healing and repairing the micro-injuries prompts the body to produce new collagen and elastin fibers. Collagen is a protein that helps maintain skin’s strength, elasticity, and youthful appearance. While some improvement may be noticeable after a single treatment, a series of sessions is often recommended for optimal results. Results become more apparent over time as collagen production increases.

The stimulation of collagen and elastin production can help improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Microneedling is often used to reduce the appearance of acne scars, surgical scars, and other types of scars. The procedure can help improve the texture of the skin and reduce the appearance of enlarged pores. Microneedling may help to even out skin tone and reduce the appearance of dark spots and hyperpigmentation.

The natural healing process of the skin takes time – after the treatment, the results will continue to improve in the weeks. Most patients will see the optimum results at around 3-6 months.

For some patients depending on the skin conditions, a course of 4-6 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart might be recommended to achieve the treatment goal.
